NEW UPDATE on Proportions Lesson

2 days, 15 hours later – and damn does it feel good to be back behind the ol’ drawing board.

Sometimes I think I’m an absolute slacker… until I see the time stamps on some of these intricate specimens. The inner paranoia of an obsessed worka-holic indulging in a labor of love. Go figure.

Would I rather be doing anything else? HELL NO! I’ve come to the conclusion that drawing comics is highly therapeutic. I don’t care what anyone says.

Okay – now to the drawings above. You guessed it! I’ve drawn this guy up for the new Proportions Lesson I’ll be releasing sometime around the endish of this month.

This particular part of the lesson talks about a popular obstacle surrounding proportions that many of us struggle with – what happens to the proportions of a character when you begin to pose them in perspective?

Yep. This lesson goes the whole 8 miles on everything there is to know about keeping your characters in proportion. And though it’s taken some time to put together, I’ve enjoyed every single moment spent on it!

As you can imagine I can’t wait to call it done and get it out to you.

Actually, while I was drawing this dude up, I asked my brother Korey to check it out. I often get him to critique my work to avoid embarrassing myself, because hey – the truth is there’s no magic recipe’ for drawing a perfect picture every time pencil goes to paper. Sadly, not even I am immune to creating bad drawings from time to time.

Anyway, not only do I record the making of these illustrations, I also keep the layers separated as I’m working. In other words, I preserve all the foundational construction sketches, the rough drafts, and the line weight, shadow and rendering layers for the inks.

And Korey mentioned that letting you have the actual project files for these drawings might be useful to some of you! I hadn’t even thought of it, but it was a fantastic idea.

So as an added bonus, I’ve decided to include the project documents for all the illustrations inside the Proportions Lesson package.

That means in the premium package you’ll get the 1 Hour Lesson + E-Book, High Res Proportion Charts, Video Recordings and the Layered Project Files for each Illustration.

Some of you have asked about where you’ll be able to get your hands on the Proportions Lesson – Both the Free and Premium version will be available on How to Draw Comics . NET. Let me tell you too,– The 15 minute free version will blow you away on its own, providing you with all you need to know about drawing the Heroic Figure in Proportion.

I’ll have some more info for you closer to the release! In the meantime if you’ve got any other questions, just leave them in the comments below.

Enjoy, -Clayton
