Just some doodling...

Hi...I'm a 51 yr-old wanna-be illustrator. When I was a kid, all I ever wanted to do was draw comics when I grew up...well, real life, and a few art teachers with a disdain for comics–because they weren't "real" art–and a rather humiliating encounter with Marvel editor at a convention got me to leave all of that behind in the early 90's...

Last year, I was downsized out of a $60,000/yr job I had spent the last 25 years clawing my way up to...so I decided I was going to pursue my childhood dream, even if I only did it for myself, and self-published.

But the art landscape has changed soooo much...but going digital is, I realized, the way to go, for speed, efficiency, and just the enormous amount of tools available...but damn...the learning curve....I mean, I know how to draw...but getting the hang of digital pencils, pens, and brushes has proven to be more difficult than I imagined. The hardest part is not being able to see what my hand is doing, because I can't afford a pen display tablet yet. But here are a few examples of studies and WIPs I've done recently.

This is traditional art, colored pencils...I then transferred it to Clip Studio for the next phase...
