Look kids, it’s Pennywise!🎈
Had a merry old time inking up this lovable Clown. His costume turned out to be just the challenge I thought it would be, requiring a careful balance of rendering to achieve the tones and materials I was looking for. Getting all those cross-hatches placed so that the values read correctly was absolute key. It can make the difference between an unreadable mess of lines and an illustration that pops right off the page.
The hardest part was nailing the creases and folds inside the fabrics as they wrapped around his body. Fairly straight forward in some areas, total chaos in others. Facing those types of obstacles head on is one of the best ways to really up your game as an artist though, so I embraced it!
All in all I’m pleased with the end result. After calling it a wrap on Pennywise, I’ve gotta say I’m tempted to tackle some more ghoulish movie monsters.
The narrated video recording for this piece will be up on the HTDC Youtube channel in a few days, so keep a look out for that.
-- In other news 📢 -- I’ve become addicted to Insta-Stories – and have started sending out daily drawing tips, insights, and exclusive behind the scenes peeks at what I’m working on in the studio!
I say exclusive because these clips only last 24 hours before they disappear. And although I wasn’t initially planning on promoting them too much – I’ve been sharing a few gems over the last few days that are just too good to miss.
So if you’d like to get the daily, inside scoop on whats happening at HTDC headquarters follow me on Instagram at: https://www.instagram.com/howtodrawcomics/
